Our Backgrounds
Roxy and Tim both grew up in family-owned, small businesses in Minnesota. Roxy grew up not too far away in Wyoming, MN. After finishing college she began working for her family and helping to manage the family drugstores. Tim grew up on a small resort in Northern Minnesota. His parents (in their 80’s), brothers, and cousin still run the resort which also has a bar and restaurant on the Cass Lake chain. Tim learned at a young age how to bail out a boat, mow the lawn, clean fish, and grill a burger at the bar! Roxy learned how to fill prescriptions and run a retail store. They raised two children in the Forest Lake area who are both currently attending graduate school.
People always ask us why we bought the Inn and if it was our dream to own a B&B. Our son teases that it was our mid-life crises. The truth is…..with both of us growing up in small businesses we had always dreamed of being independent and owning our own business. We stumbled upon the Inn by accident and could see the pure potential. We absolutely love the river and wanted other people to be able to enjoy it also. Bringing the Inn back to life was a test of ourselves, before we got any older. A test to see if we could be successful in the hospitality world. It was time to step out of our comfort zone a bit. We sure did! It has been difficult but extremely rewarding. We wouldn’t change a thing.
A Diamond in the Rough
When we first purchased the Inn it honestly looked like a haunted house. The doors were falling off, paint peeling and it was really, really dirty. But we were immediately were excited by its historic beauty and potential.
We have painted almost every room. Hoping to finish the last few this year. Plus, we purchased all new mattresses, three new King beds, outside doors, air conditioners, boilers….the list goes on. But the the dream to restore it back to its original elegance highlighting its 3x3x3 hand-cut limestone block foundation and to create a breathtaking hotel with distinctive, interesting and clean rooms has come to fruition. Providing a beautiful place to stay where guests can have panoramic views of the river is the mission. The St. Croix Valley Inn is a wonderful place to celebrate special occasions and milestones in life or to take a few days away in a relaxing environment. The Inn is perched atop a bluff overlooking the beautiful St. Croix River. Oh, and breakfast is good too!
